This meeting consists of two parts: an invitation-only SEEK All-hands meeting ? from May 8-11, 2004, and a joint meeting with the e-Science Center from May 12-14, 2004 targeting researchers working in eScience GRID environments.
eScience GRID Environments Workshop, May 12-14, 2004This workshop aims to bring researchers working on different aspects of eScience GRID environments from the USA together with those involved in UK and EU GRID projects to share knowledge, discuss the major challenges in these areas and formulate the best way forward. Specifically researchers from the USA working on the SEEK project (Scientific Environment for Ecological Knowledge), funded by NSF will collaborate with researchers from UK and EU. The areas core to SEEK which have considerable overlap with UK/EU projects and will be investigated during the workshop include OGSA-DAI; Semantic mediation, Scientific Workflows and Taxonomic Concept Standards. SEEK is a five-year project funded by the NSF as a large ITR project in 2002. SEEK spans multiple universities and organizations including the University of New Mexico, the University of Kansas, the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS at UC Santa Barbara) and the San Diego Super Computer Center (SDSC). The aim of the project is to develop a cyber-infrastructure for ecologists to share data and modeling capabilities. More information can be found at http://seek.ecoinformatics.org.
