Intro to ecoinformatics (winter 2005/ 2006)

  • Audience: undergraduate students in biology/ecology/zoology
  • Objective: This is a conceptual course is designed to provide individuals with the fundamentals of ecoinformatics
  • Methods: 16 week course where students use canned data sets on ecological niche modeling to create potential scenarios of species migration; paths of invasive species due to climate change.
  • Topics include: data and metadata; Standards and why they are necessary; the need for global repositories; Open-source vs. Proprietary; and Creating collaborative environments
