Plan Of Attack

For the current prototype (using a simplified taxon schema), a web demo product will allow a user to query the database through a web interface:

• The system will accept a taxon query and return a scored list of taxonomic concepts (see DefinitionsAssumptionsAndGeneralArchitecture).
• The system will accept a taxon query and return a scored list datasets whose EML metadata matches the query.
• We will add sample data to the KNB metacat server
• The system will query KNB metacat server for datasets with taxonomic coverage info in their EML that matches the taxon query.

The next prototype will also include:

1. Integrate new Taxonomic Schema into code
2. Integrate additional taxonomic trees

For future discussion (perhaps for another WG):

• Will a registry be created and maintained matching datasets to the Concept DB or will all queries to datasets be handled on the fly?
