Discussion

1. SEEK Taxon will meet at the TDWG Meeting, attending the TDWG Names subgroup on October 23, our own Taxon WG meeting on Oct 24 Fri, 25 Sat and an optional meeting on the evening of Oct 22 Wed in the evening in the hotel lobby. Beach will communicate this decision to Stan Blum asking for logistics assistance with local room reservations, consideration for involvement in the Names subgroup. Gauch will follow-up with Blum until while Beach is out until Sept 2. Beach will ask Michener about UNM paying the airfares, individual WG members will make their own flight, hotel and local transportation arrangements, hopefully with guidance from TDWG.
2. Gauch provided an update on KU development activities (see previous meeting summary for plan of attack and current objectives.)
3. Jones provided a summary of other SEEK working groups' status.
4. Vieglais provided a summary of BEAM WG meeting in Mexico last week.
5. UNC Postdoc hiring still in process.
6. KU Consulting arrangement with Dave Thau still in process (Thau vacation wait state).
7. KU plans to hire Joana Trajkova 50%-time EECS doctoral candidate as a graduate research assistant under Gauch, to likely look at issues of treating taxonomic concept classifications as ontologies, software tools, conceptual approaches, etc.
