- Most likely collaborators: Beach, Franz, Gauch, Gayles, Jones, Kennedy, Kukla, Liu, Paterson, Peet, Stewart, Thau, Vieglais
- Current Authors: Franz, Peet
- Additional Authors: possible, though not planned at the moment
- Target Outlet: the journal Taxon
- Current Status: as of September 1 (2004), Franz has completed a first draft which is under revision by Peet; submission planned within September (D. Stone's input still required)
- Inner Circulation: as of September 1 (2004), most members of the inner SEEK Taxon circle have received the draft through e-mail
- Target Audience: 1. taxonomists, concept creators, 2. concept providers such as IPNI or ITIS
- Overview of Topics: analyzes and expands Behrendsohn's (1995) and Koperski et al.'s (2000) views on concepts and their relationships; proposes and exemplifies a more wide-ranging "language" to understand and annotate concept relationships
- Other Issues and Related Projects: manuscript addresses the challenge of managing and reducing concept inflation; it is a precursor to an implementation of unique IDs for taxonomic concepts
- Help Needed: nothing urgent, really
- Current Authors: Franz, Thau
- Additional Authors: Kennedy already indicated interest, various others should too and will be kept in the loop
- Target Outlet: the journal Systematic Biology
- Current Status: as of September 1 (2004), Franz has sent a very coarse outline to Thau, and has started writing; submission planned within 2004
- Inner Circulation: none
- Target Audience: 1. (molecular, modern) phylogeneticists & taxonomists, concept creators, "working systematist big shots", 2. concept providers such as GenBank or GBIF (eventually)
- Overview of Topics: introduces the audience to the ins & outs of digital IDs for on-line intellectual products, then argues for using such IDs in systematics (including molecular phylogenetics), and particularly in combination with taxonomic concepts; outlines the more technical and societal/economic issues related to implementation
- Other Issues and Related Projects: manuscript has close ties to paper about concept relationships, addresses issues of concept creation vs. concept reuse (how to reduce inflation using unique IDs)
- Help Needed: suggestions about relevant literature? (print/on-line) on digital IDs, DOIs, LSIDs, etc. would be hepful; input regarding more specific problems will be requested as soon as they come up during the writing; we cannot complete this alone!
