- is an explicit specification of an ecological concept typically visually represented with a knowledge or concept map.
+ An ontology is a formal specification of the relationships among concepts. It can be visualized as a knowledge or concept map and is useful in reasoning about the relationships among concepts and among data that pertains to those concepts. The [KnowledgeRepresentationWorkingGroup] is building some basic ontologies for biodiversity and ecological applications, and is trying to create a framework under which these ontologies can be extended.
