This is version 6.
It is not the current version, and thus it cannot be edited. An ontology is a formal specification of the relationships among concepts. It can be visualized as a knowledge or concept map and is useful in reasoning about the relationships among concepts and among data that pertains to those concepts. The Knowledge Representation Working Group is building some basic ontologies for biodiversity and ecological applications, and is trying to create a framework under which these ontologies can be extended.
