Logistics

Where: Room 201 on the second floor of NCEAS, Santa Barbara, California (805-892-2500)
Hotel: Marina Beach Motel, forms will be given out on the first day.

The meeting will begin promptly at 8:00 am in the 2nd floor conference room at NCEAS in the Balboa Building, 735 State Street. From the airport, you may book SuperRide Airport Shuttle (805-683-9636) or take a cab. A cab is $20-$25 one way.

OBOE

  • Finalize structure so can begin publication, process, and extension processes
    • TREE proposal
    • URL
    • OBOE guide
  • Focus will be directed mainly at the Measurement Standard/Units region of the ontology
    • We need to come to a concensus about how we are going to represent units for quantitative and qualitative/continuous and discrete unit types

Extension ontologies

  • Produce a draft convention for engineering extension ontologies
    • Extension points: Entity, Characteristic, Measurement Standard, and Context
    • Evaluation process

Versioning and backward compadibility issues

  • E.g., OBOE's constant structural changes have made it hard to create extension ontologies

Data summarization

  • Demostration of summarization capabilities enabled by OBOE

Operation over observations and measurements

  • Demonstration of compatibility and conversion using OBOE
  • Flush out all function necessary for simple data merge

Storing annotations

  • Discussion of ways to store OBOE data annotations
    • EML extension/new module
    • Short term versus long term considerations
