Summary

Reports are being submitted and will be summarized on Tuesday. If you just submitted a report, it will be at the bottom of this page.

Individual Reports

Martin Graham

Current tasks / bugs

  • Modifying visualisation tool to work with xml input files
    • Slow at first. Discovered validating docs as i read them can result in 30x slowdown :-0 - validation switched off
    • Also producing very large files with simple schema - expect larger files when i move to a version of tcs for storage
  • Working on suggested changes to journal paper re visualisation tool
  • Setting up Nico's pair of taxonomies with my visualisation tools.

Dan Higgins

Current tasks / bugs

  • The previous week was spent in creating an 'RExpression' actor which allows the user to use the R system inside Kepler with a minimum of effort. A preliminary actor ('RExpression') has been created and checked into CVS. Several example workflows have also been created (see kepler/workflows/test/gce-mollusc-avg_by_spp_R.xml)This new actor is still under development.

(Jenny) Guilian Wang

Completed tasks / bugs fixed

  • Studied the limitations of our schema mapping tool, SCIA, andimprovements needed
  • Identified more interesting applications
  • Made plans for improving SCIA
  • Looked for more appropriate parsers for XML Schema, instead of using XML parsers to process XML Schema files

Current tasks / bugs

  • Develop a new algorithm for importing XML Schema files into the internal schema trees in SCIA, based on ApacheXML Schema APIs and DOM 3 APIs, in order to acquire constraint information and more useful type information for matching and mapping, andalso to support more complicated XML Schema files, including EML
  • Look for new free XQuery engine. There are two main reasons for this.Firstly, the Quilt engine, Kweelt, which we are using now, uses a very oldversion of xerces package that is not compatible with the new versionthat covers XML SchemaAPIs. In addition, SCIA'd better generate view in standard XQuery, inorder to easily work with other applications together
  • Improve the mapping algorithm, using more constraint information
  • Improve the view generation algorithm, to be able to output viewdefinition that conforms both target structure and constraints

Serguei Krivov

Completed tasks / bugs fixed

  • filters are finaly functional, there are filters to view class definition, subclusses, superclasses etc for SELECTED NODE
    • simple combo based interface for selection of a filter added
    • major debuging has been completed
  • bug fixed: in editing mode right button click was causing crush

Current tasks / bugs

  • Debuging: jena version still is not stable, some ontologies do not load, some produce strange rendering of namespace prefixes.

Significant issues

  • I do not feel happy about combo based interface for selecting filter, but what could be a better alternative?
